I am going to talk about two things here. The first thing is the blog’s theme, and the second thing is the comments system.
So, first, let’s talk about the blog’s theme. Earlier today, we were using the new Twenty Fifteen theme, which in my personal opinion, is complete shit. The text is too big, the site is too narrow, and everything feels super claustrophobic for me. Maybe it’s just because I write a lot, but it really felt uncomfortable. As you can see, now it looks much better.
Now I am using a modified version of the Twenty Fourteen theme. I am much happier with it now. I like the color scheme, the posts are wider, and the text is smaller. It feels much roomier and more comfortable. There are still things that need to be changed or tweaked, but I feel much more comfortable with it now.
That’s all I really have to say about that. The next thing I want to talk about is the comments system. I have considered using something like Google+, Disqus, or IntenseDebate, but eventually I settled on just sticking with the built-in WordPress system. It seems to work pretty well, and I have now set up OneAll for social login, which makes it very easy to log in and post comments. If you don’t want to use social login, that’s fine too, just enter your name and email and you can post a comment without logging in. Currently I am supporting the following login methods, though I may add or remove some in the future.
- Microsoft Account (Windows Live)
- OpenID (Misc)
If you have any specific others that you would like to be added, leave a comment, or email me (firstname.lastname@example.org) and I will try to get it added! I want to make the comments section as accessible as possible.
P.S. Oh yeah. Also Palpy got a blog too. It’s here: http://palpy.info/
